Signs of the Apocalypse: Depending on your religion and your personal belief system, the apocalypse - and its signs - are numerous and varied. For better insight into this you can:

A) Read the book of Revelation in the Bible;
B) Consult a learned pastor/leader in your religion of choice; C) Don't worry about it, because whether you stress yourself out or not, it's not in your control. It will either happen or not happen.
 According to the New Testament
We find the answer to that question in several places in the Bible. One is where Jesus was sitting on the Mount of Olives, and his disciples asked him about what to look for "at the conclusion of the system of things" (Matt 24:3). The King James Version uses the expression, "end of the world," in that verse. Jesus went on to give a composite sign. In other words, a sign consisting of many parts.

If you read Matthew 24, you find that he speaks of:
  • wars on a global scale
  • famine
  • pestilence (sickness and disease)
  • lawlessness (crime)
  • people having no love for one another
  • earthquakes

We have seen these events occurring since 1914 and World War I. There is a parallel account in Luke chapter 21.

In 2 Timothy Chapter 3, verses 1-5, we find indications of how people would act in the last days. Here we see that "men will be lovers of themselves, lovers of money, self-assuming, haughty, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, disloyal, having no natural affection, not open to any agreement, slanderers, without self-control, fierce, without love of goodness, betrayers, headstrong, puffed up [with pride], lovers of pleasures rather than lovers of God, having a form of godly devotion but proving false to its power."

We can see all of these things have been occurring since the early 1900s, and are on the increase.

Is there any hope?
There is absolutely reason to have hope, because Jesus, in Matthew 24:14, spoke of "this good news." How could all this be good news, since it all sounds bad? It is because this sign indicates we are living in a time when God's Kingdom is very soon to correct all these conditions.

Jesus told us in Luke 21:28: "As these things start to occur, raise yourselves erect and lift YOUR heads up, because YOUR deliverance is getting near." Yes, these events are actually indications of better things to come.
Daniel 2:44 indicates a drastic change on the world scene, when it says, "And in the days of those kings the God of heaven will set up a kingdom that will never be brought to ruin. And the kingdom itself will not be passed on to any other people. It will crush and put an end to all these kingdoms, and it itself will stand to times indefinite."

This kingdom that Daniel speaks of is God's Kingdom. The same kingdom that Jesus taught us to pray for in the "Lord's Prayer" or the "Our Father" prayer found in Matthew, chapter 6, starting in verse 9. You probably remember hearing that prayer from a very early age.

"Our father who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come, thy will be done, as in heaven, also apon the Earth."

Many people say those words, but they do not realize what they are praying for. Think about the words in that prayer. First, Jesus is teaching us to pray for God's name to be known, and then second, for God's Kingdom to "come" or exercise authority over the Earth as it is in Heaven. It is God's will that His Kingdom "come," so we can be sure that it will happen.

Additional input

If you take Jesus at his own word in Matthew 24:37-39, Luke 17:26-30, there will be no signs preceding the Apocalypse. Jesus said people would be carrying on business as usual unaware of coming doom. If the Bible is true, the things we see going on today are not signs of the Apocalypse. Jesus said there would be wars and rumors of wars (just as there always has been since the beginning of the first cities). If there is going to be an actual Apocalypse, you won't see it coming until it's too late; until Noah has already entered the ark, or Lot has already left the city, so to speak.
