You must consider the best approach as it relates to the customer's well-being by using sincere, open, honest, and direct communication. When a customer approaches you, do not look at that person as just a customer. See them as your mother, your father, your sister, your brother, aunt, uncle, cousin, or you best friend. How would you treat them? That's the way you should treat every customer. * You must believe in what you sell. If you do not believe or have faith in what you are selling, you should not be selling it. Businesses should be responsible and accountable for what they sell and how they sell it. In part, that's referred to as social responsibility. Remember, your looking after the well-being of the customer. If you have faith in your product, it will show through you. * Know your product thoroughly! Make sure you give the pros and cons of the product in full disclosure, so the customer can make a reasonable decision for themselves. Use common sense. Sometimes you must give information on a product in a way that is easy for people to understand. Do not assume the customer is well informed about what they are purchasing. * Do not use high pressure sales tactics. You will just annoy customers and they will rarely return. Be encouraging and ask them what they think so far, do you think this will meet your needs, what are you feeling at this point, do you understand what I have said, do you have any questions, do you need some time to think about it? * If a customer says he/she is just browsing, them let them know you are there to help them should they need assistance, or have any questions. Then, leave them alone; do not walk in back of them like you are some kind of stalker. It just makes people nervous. Still, always be cognizant that they are there. In other words, don't forget them and just keep an eye at a distance. These are just a few hints. To cover everything would take a book. Still, be friendly, nurturing, always build up, never tear down. Lastly, never go for the short win, but consider the long-term benefits. As I stated in the beginning, word of mouth is one of the most import and critical advertising issues. You want people to recommend you and the business. It makes for overall success, and becomes a win-win situation for all concerned.
