While I am an American, I couldn't think of anything that was, in the long term, bad about American independence, so I instead answered this question from a British perspective.

Pro: The independence of the American colonies from British rule, which forced the British Empire to look eastward, leading to the colonization of Australia, New Zealand, and the conquest of India. Cons: The loss of an area that would become the worlds largest industrial center, loss of access to much of North America.

Pro: France went to war with Austria and Prussia for their Countrys honor and respect.

Con: They were in a moment were they were they had no control in their Gov't.
