Again, Jewish tradition says that the prophet Samuel was the author. this makes sense, since King David is mentioned in Ruth 4:17 and 22. So Samuel could have lived during the time period when these events took place.

1st and 2nd Samuel:The author is officially anonymous, although some people assume Samuel recorded both 1 and 2 Samuel as an autobiography. but that is not likely because Samuel's death is recorded in 1 Samuel 25:1
