It is easy to make your own dishwashing liquid for cleaning dishes. The basic ingredients are as follows:

1/4 cup soap flakes

2 cups hot water

1/4 cup glycerin

1/2 teaspoon lemon essential oil

If you like using natural products for house cleaning then you will be happy with the solution.

To make the dishwashing liquid just combine soap flakes and water in a bowl and stir until the soap is dissolved. Cool to luke warm. Stir in the glycerin and the essential oil and leave the mixture to cool so that it forms a gel. Break up the gel by stirring with a fork or spatula and pour into a bottle like a used shampoo bottle. You'll need about three teaspoons full for a sink of dishes.

From the related links, it appears the ingredients are as follows: essential oils blue and yellow colorant coconut-based cleaning agents (anionic and nonionic surfactants: alkyl polyglucoside, sodium lauryl sulfate and cocodimethyl amine oxide) filtered water corn-based ethanol biodegradable preservative citric acid contains no phosphorus or bleach The best bet for "true" ingredients would be to hunt down a Material Safety Data Sheet though....to find out that percentages, and the "real" substances behind these crazy (well...not really...but you know what I mean) names. For example, the "corn based ethanol" could likely be "2-butoxyethanol" which supposidely has some ill side-effects if not used with proper precautions (gloves basically..) Finally, I found one (an MSDS listing for this product): Sodium lauryl sulfate 7 - 15% Alkyl polyglucoside 5 - 10% Alkyl dimethylamine oxide 1 - 5% Ethyl alcohol 0.5 - 3% the percentages are the "weight"/concetration. Now, if you wanted, you could look up those scientific names at Wikipedia or another source and find out really what they are. But I am personally surprised to see the "2-Butoxyethanol" not listed there; since it's a "popular" ingredient of many "green" or "all-purpose" cleaners nowadays... I'll add a Related Link to the MSDS as well.
