Without being an engineer, I speculate his job tasks will be generating an idea, find people that will support his idea both financially, and commercially (publicity and find workers), find companies that will provide affordable and well designed/reliable parts, do field testing of the item he created, and find ways to improve it.
Also find artists that would design the object attractive to the eyes of the buyer (work on aesthetics).
Some engineers also have a business degree to run their own companies, and control their own market pricing.
