I'm pretty sure the main goal is to teach kids ways to excerise, what muscles are affected by what movements (ie stretching or throwing a ball) and to show why excercise is important. Otherwise, I imagine it would just be a way to get kids to exercise, burn off excess energy, teach life-long activities (Golf comes to mind), and, on those extremely rare ocassions, have fun doing something physical while in school.
