Answer:

Life is too short to list them all; One early one might be that Gen.ii:7 says that, 'in the day' they eat the fruit, they 'should surely die' - but Gen v:5 says Adam lived to be 930. However, this might not be a contradiction; perhaps God was just fibbing. Gen.vii:2 God says that Noah should take 7 of each clean beast into the ark, after having said (Gen.vi:19) two would be enough. Apparently Noah thought the first instruction was better - Gen.vii:8-15 says he took two of each.

More seriously, perhaps, Psalm cxlv:8,9 says, 'The Lord is good to all', but I Samuel vi:19 describes a particularly nasty slaughter - 50,070 in one swipe, of which almost all were innocent. You've got to watch this character; his 'goodness' takes some bizarre forms.

Reading the differing stories of Jesus' birth and his escape from the tomb is enough to make you wonder if he actually existed - or was he three different people...no, just more contradictions.

Answer:

Jesus tells us: "...the Scripture cannot be broken..." (John 10:35). The Holy Spirit-inspired Scriptures do NOT contradict themselves. However... with all of the many possibly "somewhat-less-than-inspired" translations of the original scriptures in the world -- the Bible can in places appear to some people to contradict themselves.

That's where Bible study comes in; "continuing in My Word," as Jesus puts it [John 8:31] "...If ye continue in My Word [the Bible: read it, study it, pray on it, trust it, believe it, chew on it, digest it... hear the Truth of the Holy Spirit that dwells within you regarding what you are reading], then are ye My disciples indeed; and YE SHALL KNOW THE TRUTH, and the Truth shall make you free." (John 8:31-32)

The original Scriptures are "Divine revelation" and not contradictory. But some modern translations can make them appear so at times. But God will reveal the Truth of His Word to a humble, trusting, prayerful heart.

There are indeed too many contradictions to list.

Did God tell Noah to take seven of each clean animal onto his Ark (Genesis 7:2), or did he tell him to take two of each kind, whether clean or unclean (Genesis 6:19-20)? The answer lies in understanding that there are two different stories of the flood, wriiten by two different authors and so cleverly interleaved by the Redactor that they appear to the casual reader to be simply one, rather complex story of a great flood.

Bishop Geoffrey Robinson points out in a recent book that there are two different stories of Saul becoming king of Israel (1 Samuel 9:1-10:16 and 1 Samuel 8:1-22; 10:17-24; 12:1-24). Once again, the two stories have been very well redacted, but careful reading shows that one story portrays his appointment in a favourable manner and the other portrays it unfavourably.

Have a more careful look at the nativity stories in Matthewand Luke. Was Bethlehem the home town of Joseph and Mary, and did they flee with Jesus from Bethlehem to Egypt, later to begin a return trip to Bethlehem but turning aside to settle in Galilee, in a town called Nazareth? Or was Nazareth their home town and did they return peacefully from Bethlehem to Nazareth shortly after the birth of Jesus, travelling from Nazareth to Jerusalem each year for the Passover (Luke 2)? Then have a look at the four gospel accounts of the empty tomb - how many women were present and what were their names?

Is there any conflict in the Bible verses?

Yes, there are many contradictions in the bible. Why not read it and take notes.

Which is the best book for explaining all those contradictions in the Bible?

A:There is no single book that attempts to explain all the contradictions in the Bible. The reason is that, while biblical scholars are well aware of contradictions, doublets and errors in the Bible, they choose not to focus on them. When describing a topic or a book of the Bible they may, in doing so, point out contradictions and errors purely within the scope of the issues they are dealing with.'Where God Was Born: A Journey by Land to the Roots of Religion', written by Bruce Feiler, may help understand some of the Old Testament issues.'Jesus for the NonReligious' by John Shelby Spong, provides an insight from the viewpoint of a liberal, retired bishop.

How much of the Bible was inspired by God?

For the Bible to be inspired by God, it ought to be inerrant and without contradictions since God can surely not make any errors. Yet throughout the Bible and in almost every book, there are clear and identifiable errors, whether historical or scientific. There are numerous doublets and biblical contradictions that point to multiple authors writing according to the context and needs of their own times, and not writing perfect copies of God's word. None of the Bible was inspired by God.

Why were there 52 errors in the Bible?

A:I am afraid there are far more than 52 errors in the Bible. Even if we accept the religious truth of everything in the Bible, there are very, very many scientific and historical errorsin the Bible, as well as contradictions and anomalies. The Bible is a book of faith, not a book of fact.

Why can you say that the bible passes the external test better than any other document of its time?

It does not. The Bible has been changed and altered so many times and so many different versions are available that it is difficult to know which is the correct Bible, and there are lots of contradictions.

Is the Bible the word of truth?

For Bible literalists, the Bible is entirely true and inerrant. However, even many Christians recognise that a book with so many contradictions and historical erros can not be regarded as literally the word of truth. They regard it as inspired, rather than infallible.
