Integrated pest management uses things like, monitoring pests and setting a threshold limit before using pesticides, and selecting pest resistant crops. Often times someone just using a pesticide will use a broad spectrum pesticide where someone using integrated pest management will use a pesticide as a last resort and use one that only targets the problem pests.

These species can be put in jeopardy when introduced pest species put pressures on their survival. E.g. Introduced Stoats are predators to Kiwi in New Zealand rendering them a critically endangered species. Pests are sometimes not introduced but simply become so through massive reproductive success periods. Integrated pest management serves to aim to reduce the amount of pests in areas where repercussions of their effects are felt.
