They may cause mutations

Artifical selection is the process of interntional, or unentitional modeifcation of a species through human actions which encourage the breeding of certain traits over others.

Some disadvantages of artificial selection is that it is inhumane, can cause mutations or produce new problems. An example of the inhumane process is the new way of breeding chickens. These chickens are produced without fethers. Critics say the feather-free chickens will suffer more than normal birds. Males might be unable to mate, because they cannot flap their wings, and "naked" chickens of both sexes are more susceptible to parasites, mosquito attacks and sunburn.

The advantages of artificial selection are really not numerous. There are a few, but they are rarely easy to find. I had to spend hours searching different websites until I could compile a group of five. Here's my group:

  • Faster evolution, meaning the world will adapt to changes better
  • We can create crops resistant to chemicals, therefor they can better and quicker
  • In the near future, people will be resistant to many life-threatening diseases
  • Near perfect hybrid variety
  • New species

Hope my answer helped you!

Artificial selection, or, selective breeding, is advantageous to the economy in various ways. For starters, if the subject is corn, artificial selection has been used for thousands of years to increase the potency of desired traits in different breeds or corn. ie. selecting corn plants with higher oil concentration on average to reproduce to increase the percentage of oil. this would lead to more production of biological ethanol and increase the value of the economy.

Well, some pros are that we can have posotive traits of more than one organism in a new breed of animal or plant. Like a labradoodle.

Im not looking for credit. just don't cheat.

Artificial selection is a synonym for selective breeding

Artificial selection in humans has been tried throughout history by different groups, often with the goal of a superior human.

Artificial selection in plants has always the goal to either improve their resistance against weather and pests or increase the amount we can harvest from them.

Artificial selection in animals on the other hand can have a great benefit for humans by breeding more efficient animals. For example a cow that gives more milk or a chicken that lays an egg per day. Of course there is also the kind of breeding people do just because they like certain attributes of an animal.

Most of those animals become dependent on humans and for that the ethics of this kind of breeding is debatable.

Artificial selection is beneficial because it helps produce better varieties of corn, the domestication of dogs and cats to make them companions to humans, more/better milk production in cows, increases the world's food supply, and makes crops more resistant to pesticides.
