  • It is a very versatile instrument; I am in a symphonic band and jazz band and it plays well in both.
  • It has a HUGE range of notes - one of the longest. At least three octaves.
  • It sounds absolutely beautiful when your tone develops.
  • It's small and easy to poke the people who sit in the row in front of you with.
  • The Clarinet is a classic Italian instrument.
  • It's very photogenic.
  • When you get good at clarinet it's easy to pick up Saxophone like I did.
  • In many concert band songs there are clarinet solos (especially French and Italian ones).
  • It is a Bb (B flat) instrument so you can also play Trumpet and saxophone music, as well as others.
  • There are a bunch of keys (25, I think) so your memory gets used. So many alternate fingerings . . .

there are many notes to learn. it sounds good, and becomes easier to play as you practice
