The nervous system consists of generally two main parts.

  1. Central Nervous System (CNS)
  2. Peripheral Nervous System (PNS)
  • CNS includes Brain and Spinal cord.
  • PNS consists of extended nerve fibres and gray matter called ganglia.

Cerebral Palsy

is a disorder caused by damage to the brain resulting to a lack of balance and usually impaired speech. This disorder is often associated with other mental problems.

Multiple Sclerosis

Multiple sclerosis is a disease of the nervous system where the myelin sheaths covering the axons of the neurons in the brain and spinal cord are damaged. This results in the weakening of the muscles thereby affecting the function of the nerves. The cause of this nerve damage is unknown. The symptoms include slurred speech, weakness of the muscles and shaky movements of the limbs.

Encephalitis

Encephalitis is caused by a virus attacking the brain. This results in the inflammation of the brain. If this happens the person affected will have headache and fever. Later symptoms are behavioral disturbances and problems in speech and memory. This ailment could be treated with antiviral drugs.

Parkinson's Disease

This is associated with aging, The most common symptom is tremor that starts from one hand then slowly spreads to the legs on the same side.

Brain Tumor

A brain tumor is an abnormal growth in the brain. The symptoms include muscle weakness and speech difficulty. The tumor needs to be destroyed before it spreads.

Meningitis

Meningitis is an inflammation of the meninges that cover the brain and spinal cord. It is caused by a virus or bacteria. The

most common symptoms include, nausea, vomiting and fever. This ailment could be treated with antibiotics.

Bell's Palsy

Bell's Palsy is a form of Neuritis that involves paralysis of the facial nerve. This affects the muscles of one side of the face resulting in the inability to close the cause of the ailment is unknown.

SciaticaSciatica is a condition that occurs due to damage of a nerve or nerve root. The symptoms include Back pain and pain in the thigh, legs and foot. There may be numbness and weakness in the legs too.

The ailments that affect the nervous system are usually serious and can result in paralysis and behavioral disturbances. The modern technology has come up with a lot of new methods in treating different types of ailments of the nervous system. Physical therapy is also very helpful in reviving nerves that are starting to malfunction.
