1] raise the baseline of public consciousness with respect to environmental responsibility, sustainability and conservation;
2] create a public mindset that accepts and even drives environmentally-relavant policy, practices and legislation.
3] Helped re-brand environmentalism from extremist confrontation to mainstream public responsibility.
4] make the general public aware that they are stakeholders, not bystanders.
5] spread ideas about environmentally-friendly products, practices and policies, and even education and career opportunities.

∙ 13y agoThe response to the first earth day was quite great. Everyone celebrated the Earth by hosting some sort of environment-awareness activity.
The reason for the first earth day was the concern for the growing problems related with pollution.
