Psoriasis is Greek for “to itch” and this is one condition that lives up to its name. When the red, itchy patches of psoriasis first appear, a sufferer knows it. Over time the patches multiply and grow even more irritated, causing scaly areas to form on the skin, flaking off only to be replaced by still more itchy scales. Psoriasis is a frustrating condition but there are ways to combat its side effects so that the outbreak is less severe. There are also treatments that ease the pain and itching of psoriasis, though these treatments don’t stop it altogether.

Many people opt for the natural psoriasis treatments rather than the heavily medicated. To determine if the natural method is right for you, follow these few steps and then dive right in if more natural methods sound like something that might help your case of psoriasis.

1.Determine what kind you have: Psoriasis can be caused by many conditions and is even a form of Arthritis in some cases. For more severe forms of psoriasis such as this, medical attention is the first step on your journey toward recovery. See a doctor and find out exactly what kind of psoriasis you suffer from.

2.Research: If you opt to forego medical treatments, you’ll have to read more about natural treatments for psoriasis. As always, the internet has ample amounts of literature on the subject.

3.Dieting strategy: Most people believe that at least some cases of psoriasis respond to changes in diet. Find a psoriasis friendly diet and stick to it.

4.Baths: Mineral baths have long been a treatment for psoriasis and should be tried next, after a proper diet has been adhered to. These two natural remedies can be a wonderful start to a treatment program for you.

5.Try again: If this doesn’t work, add supplements to your diet. Many supplements are said to aid in the treatment of psoriasis.

6.Know when to give up: If these over-the-counter and lifestyle changes don’t work, return to your doctor and try other methods. There is a good reason for giving natural methods a chance, but there is an equally good reason to give up and try more medically-oriented approaches, too.

What do you recommend for psorasis on the scalp?

Scalp psoriasis treatment options can help control its symptoms. Sometimes scalp psoriasis will clear on its own (a spontaneous remission), or it can remain on the scalp for long periods of time. It is important to select scalp treatments that are agreeable to you. Treatments should never be worse than the psoriasis itself. Consider your lifestyle, available time and the cost to help you decide among the options. Tar products and salicylic acid are generally sufficient for treating very mild scalp psoriasis. More severe scalp psoriasis may require persistence and experimentation to find an effective treatment plan. Treatments include topical medications (applied to the skin) and occasionally ultraviolet (UV) light. Treatments are often combined and rotated because a person's psoriasis can become resistant to medications after repeated use. Systemic (oral or injected) psoriasis treatments are not commonly used just for scalp psoriasis, but they may be tried if psoriasis is present elsewhere on the body and/or the psoriasis is severe
