To solve the problem, Roosevelt found it appropriate to build a canal in the land that was then part of Columbia. Columbia agreed to grant America the land, but at the last minute backed out of their deal. Outraged, Roosevelt convinced the independence-seeking Panamanians to revolt against Colombia; they eventually gained there independence and were quick to grant the US the land to build the Panama Canal.

∙ 11y agoI am very proud of the United States. I am a huge patriot. But I must admit we (as a country, not we personally) have acted imperially at times.
The first would be our westward expansion. These lands were inhabited by the Native Americans yet we claimed them for ourselves. There is probably not any treaty we signed with the Indians that we were faithful to.
Another example is slavery. Slavery is a way of simply taking what we want regardless of how it affects others. We believed ourselves to be superior. Feeling superior is not unusual in earth's history.
