appetizer -- entrée (yes, we use the French word for appetizer to mean "main course"... I don't know why)

(on the other hand, the expression "hors d'œuvre" means the same in both languages, even though the pronunciation changes dramatically)

Salut: EXCELLENT QUESTION - This is good because of the corelation of words to english. Appetizer in french is hor d'oeuvre or entrée. Of course, in english, the french word entrée is used for the main course. In France, the main course is called plat principale. Tres interressant, non?
