When you use the literary device called "anthropomorphism," you are giving an inanimate object (such as a tree or a flower) or a non-human creature (such as an animal) attributes or abilities that only a person has. This device can also be used to refer to a god or goddess as if they are human beings. Story-tellers and mythologists often use this device, as do poets. You will find many examples of anthropomorphism in Grimm's Fairy Tales, where wolves and sheep and birds are able to speak to humans (and to other species). There are also legends where the wind or the ocean can communicate with human beings. A well-known example of anthropomorphism is found in The Bible story of Adam and Eve, where the serpent is given the ability to talk to Eve, in order to tempt her to eat the forbidden fruit. Another is found in the same story, in the Book of Genesis, where God is said to "walk in the garden"-- this is talking about the Deity as if he were a human being.

Anthropomorphic means something that has been humanized - generally a non human entity with human like traits.

A good example would be Bugs Bunny and Mickey Mouse. Both are anthropomorphic animals.

Another example would be The Toaster from the film The Brave Little Toaster, and Lightning McQueen from the Disney/Pixar film Cars. Both of these characters are anthropomorphic objects - one is a toaster, the other, a car (obviously)!
