The main features of paranoid schizophrenia are paranoid delusions (believing that others are trying to harm or persecute you) and auditory hallucinations (hearing things that are not real).

The main feature of catatonic schizophrenia is extremes of behavior. At one extreme, you cannot speak, move, or respond. At the other, you have overstated and hyperactive motion.

Paranoid means you think someone, or something is out to get you. Often it is a fear of the Government, or the police, sometimes a fear of aliens. There is a constant suspiciousness and mistrust of others.

Schizophrenia is a disorder where a person hears voices and may have visions. The Schizophrenic may also have delusions, and disorganized speech and thinking.

There are five types of schizophrenia, the most common of the types is paranoid schizophrenia.

So some people are paranoid, some people have schizophrenia, and some people are paranoid schizophrenics.

Why do psychologists study children that have been adopted?

It allows psychologists to identify the differences between nature (what you are born with and cannot be changed, such as genetics) and nurture (what you learn from your surroundings and your environment.) For example, if the child's parents have schizophrenia and the child was adopted for some reason, it would be interesting to see if the child developed schizophrenia later on in life. If the child didn't develop schizophrenia, then the argument would be that you develop schizophrenia from your surroundings, it is learnt. However, if the child did develop schizophrenia, then it is more likely to do with genetics and therefore cannot be changed. Schizophrenia is just an example. It can be applied to lots of areas such as criminal behaviour, aggressive behaviour, mental disorders, illnesses and so forth.
