They are age or sun spots. They occur from over exposure to the sun. You start to get them as you get older because you skin gets more sensitive to the sun as you age.
You should wear makeup with SPF in it and wear sun lotion. You can buy creams for them you could get a kin lightening cream targeted for hyperpigmentation. Look for products that contain kojic acid or hydroquinone in the list of ingredients.
