1. By keeping animals in zoos, humans are violating various animal rights - choice, freedom
2. Keeping animals in confinement, especially in cages is very cruel
3. Sometimes conditions are very bad and animals suffer due to diseases and hunger
4. Many animals suffer due to mischief by visitors
Pros:
* Better understanding and learning of the animal's anatomy and physiology through tracking of its vital organs and systems * Up close and controlled environment to study animal behavior * Breeding programs that help repopulate and preserve threatened and endangered species.
* The animal is a 'mascot' for its species- by sacrificing a few animals (by pulling them from their natural environment and putting them in zoos) people are moved to understand, help, research and donate time, energy and money to the animals' cause. * Education- Children get to see a real Elephant, they are more exposed to the natural world.
Cons:
* The animals are being taken out of their natural environment and put in smaller spaces which can cause physical and traumatize animals. * The loss of natural instincts to hunt, breed & survive.
I DON'T KNOW WHAT TO PUT NEXT?
Unfortunately, such environments are increasingly under threat. Rainforests, coral reefs and other habitats are being destroyed and, in the news this morning, it was stated that global warming could lead to the loss of the Arctic ice and snow by the middle of this century. Also, many animals are being hunted to extinction. Zoos can help to preserve endangered animals from becoming extinct and have helped save various species. However Some people state that being kept in zoos is cruel because animals need freedom and a lot of space. Also they argue that our climate does not suit many animals needs .Our weather does not suit many animals like in rare zoos they have polar bears and it is a hot day.
The only legitimate ethical argument for keeping animals in zoos is that it would be exceedingly dangerous to themselves or other animals for them to exist in their typical habitat.
Unfortunately, this argument does not stand up most of the time, particularly when the poachers or developers consuming their habitats are humans, just like the zookeepers. You wouldn't imprison a man because someone blew up his house and he has nowhere else to go, would you?
Also, despite human development, many non-humans still have a natural habitat which they lived in freely before they were captured and placed in zoos for our entertainment.
Many people believe that the animals are better off crammed into artificial surroundings and fed human-processed food than in the wild, but that would be at odds with the intent behind zoos which is to exhibit exotic beasts they've captured or bred, for a fee of course.
Truly, there exists no single, solid, impenetrable argument for the captivity of any animal for the sole benefit of anyone other than themselves.
And we're just kidding ourselves if we actually think we're doing them a favor.
Saving species from becoming extinct. Learning about their behavior, needs and health so that the ones in the wild can be saved.
There are various fields of scientific knowledge that is used when keeping animals in zoos. Primarily, the field used is zoology.
Keeping animals in cages
Some people believe that keeping animals in zoos in cruel because they are trapped in cages for the enjoyment of humans. This is not always the case as many zoos have created entire ecosystems in which animals can thrive.
They will loose their natural behaviour.
Yes because keeping zoos is important for animals to avoid extinction. Zoos help preserve species. Sometimes, zoos keep animals and then release them into the wild when the animal is mature enough. Zoos help save animals' lives. If they are disabled, people can help them.
Yea, because animals are like humans... they need freedom too.
Some people would argue that keeping animals in zoos and circuses to entertain humans is selfish and inhumane because the animals do not have freedom. Another reason, in the context of a circus, is the training the animals have to go through.
They are keeping them in the organization so they won't be harmed and they are feeding and taking care of them.
Zoos cremate their dead animals.
They are keeping them in the organization so they won't be harmed and they are feeding and taking care of them.
you can change them by keeping them happy for 3 days and then they will be shipped to different zoos or if they become criticallly ill they are sent to different zoos hope i culd help from RosiiKaii
There are many reasons for this, these are only a few. * Many zoos give injured animals a refuge while they recover so they may be returned to the wild. * Some zoos have breeding programs that help keep some animals from extinction. * Some zoos offer a home to nuisance animals so they will not be put down. * Zoos offer a place for people to learn more about the effects they have on the world around them. * Many zoos have extensive research programs that allow scientist to be able to treat ailments and problems of animals in the wild as well. * Zoos keep animals away from their predators. * Zoos give human enjoyment and entertainment. * Zoos give people an opportunity to let people see real life animals * Zoos give animals the food which saves the animal from fighting another in order to receive its prey. (If its carnivorous!) * Zoos give animals shelter.
