CS Lewis was a writer and, like any author, his purpose was to entertain, but in ways to get people thinking. His first novel was "Pilgrim's Regress", an unorthodox take on John Bunyan's "Pilgrim's Progress", but which was based on his own experiences with his departure from and return to Christianity. Its purpose was to present the Christian journey in a different (and rather controversial) way. His Chronicles of Narnia, for example, were novels that effectively incorporated some elements of Christian theological concepts in ways that were easily understood by children and adults alike. His theological works were just that - his own musings on theological matters, presenting his viewpoint.
