Scribes did all of the reading and writing in ancient Egypt, as they had done for some centuries before then and would continue doing for another century or two. Learning to read and write was such a time-consuming task that no one outside of a very specific caste was able to do so.

Actually, if you wish to be technical about this, then children were taught by their elders. The need for a "public school," then, was non-existent. While the men worked with the city, the women worked with the children, and taught them. But the High Priests were the ones who taught the most for their students, since they were the ones who used all arts of magic, and thus they needed to teach their young about their ways. The parents were the ones who taught the children to read and write, whilst those who were old enough were taught by the High Priests and Sages, to learn their arts of craft. This was usually when they were old enough to have nearly mastered the art of their own reading and writing.
