No, this is a very common internet myth, and it's false. Michelle Obama was a successful attorney, but she eventually decided to leave the profession to help her husband with his political career, raise their daughters, and then be First Lady. She allowed her law license to expire (to be placed on "inactive status"), something that is not especially unusual. And because she left the legal profession in good standing, she can simply renew her license whenever she decides to return to the practice of law.

Of course not. This is one of many internet myths created by people who simply do not understand what they read in official bits and pieces of information. They have taken a few simple facts and woven a completely untrue story around them. One of the silliest misunderstandings (and the source for many myths) involves the inactive status of Michelle Obamas license to practice law by a court order.

Michelle Obama has never been charged with extortion. She has a license to practice law in Illinois, which is currently on inactive status. A lawyer on inactive status still holds a valid license but is not currently engaged in the practice of law. At the timeMichelle opted for inactive status the official procedure required a court order for a lawyer to change their status to voluntarily inactive. That court order to change to inactive status officially is what has tongues wagging and tweets twittering all over on the internet by people who write their own made-up accounts regarding that court order procedure.

Active status for a lawyer involves many obligations such as bar association fees, malpractice insurance, continuing legal education classes, etc. To avoid those obligations lawyers who do not expect to return to practice any time soon request that their licenses be placed on inactive status to avoid the ongoing obligations of an attorney who is in active practice. Simple.

Michelle Obama has been an outstanding First Lady.

No. However, it is reported that the first lady 'surrendered' her law license at one point. At no time has she been 'disbarred.'

Whoever is answering these questions must be Michelle and Barack. Both lost their license.

Batak lost his for lying

On his license application.

Not sure why Michelle lost hers but it was either collusion or extortion. Go back and review the old

records.
