Even the followers of Jesus knew him as a prophet. Provided here in

Matthew 21:42 42Jesus said to them, "Have you never read in the Scriptures: " 'The stone the builders rejected has become the capstone; the Lord has done this, and it is marvelous in our eyes"

43"Therefore I tell you that the kingdom of God will be taken away from you and given to a people who will produce its fruit. 44He who falls on this stone will be broken to pieces, but he on whom it falls will be crushed."

45When the chief priests and the Pharisees heard Jesus' parables, they knew he was talking about them. 46They looked for a way to arrest him, but they were afraid of the crowd because the people held that he was a prophet.

Christianity answer

Many people thought that he was just another prophet, but he was really the Messiah (Chosen One) sent by God to save us. (Also, he was God in human form). Three days after His Crucifixion, he showed us that He was not just another prophet...by returning from the dead!

Islamic answer

Yes is a prophet of Allah (swt) Muslims do not believe that he was the son of god, because how could God be killed by mankind? Muslims believe that he did not die on the cross, as there is no evidence that he did, only in the man-made gospels does it say he was resurrected, in The Bible it does not say he died on the cross, and the bible was 'changed' by mankind as well, because now you find the New Testament and Old Testament (someone once told me that God made rules and took them away? but if god knows best why would he make rules that were no good? and how is it Gods new rules when the 'bible' was written by man!!!). as you can't find 2 bibles that are different in the same church or school etc. Jesus was there to deliver the bible, Muslims believe in what the bible says (the old testament one, which has not been changed), but not the 'New Testament' which has been written again by people. in the bible it states the coming of The prophet Muhammad (saw). The reason why Muslims do not read the bible is because you now cant tell which one is real and which one is not, The Qur'an was the last set of rules form Allah (swt) each book which was set down has some rules, The Qur'an was the last set, so we follow the Qur'an because it has all of the things we need to follow. As he did not die on the cross Muslims believe that Allah (swt) took him and placed him in heaven with him, as he is still alive, how could he be resurrected? Allah (swt) has said that he will come again, and in that time there will be peace and he will kill the anti-Christ, but after he leaves there will war etc. so the answer to your question is yes, Jesus was a prophet of Allah (swt)

In Islam and the Baha'i faith, he is considered a major prophet. In Christianity he is considered either God or the son of God. In Hinduism he is considered a guru. In Judaism he is considered a rabbi.

Further answering

By the Bibles account, He is the greatest Prophet of all. You could in fact say He is THE Prophet. His ministry was that of a Prophet while he was here the first time. He is referred to many times as a Prophet: Mat 21:11, even called Himself a Prophet: Mark 6:4, was called a "great prophet" by the people: Luke 7:16, Christ claiming that He as a prophet cannot perish until He come to Jerusalem: Lk 13:33, He is That Prophet prophesied to come Jn 6:14, Jn7:40, Acts 3:22-23 with Duet 18:15-18- clearly showing that Jesus wasn't just a major prophet but the greatest Prophet ever sent by God.

He did the work of a Priest as The Priest with the offer of Himself as a sacrifice to God for the forgiveness of mans sins and He continues the work now as a Priest in Heaven where He intercedes to the Father on the behalf of all believers, and when He returns, He returns as THE KING, The Lord of Lords and King of Kings to rule the Earth with a rod of iron.

So, in short, Yes Jesus was a major prophet, in fact, He was the greatest of all prophets, He was besides John the Baptist the only prophecied prophet to come, duet 18:15-18.

He is not a prophet. He is the son of God.

He isn't. Jesus was made up in the Roman senate to control the immoral populace of Rome and it's empire. And to be used to oppress other religions into their own for even more control. He is a representation of the sun (the bearer of life), as is with almost all religions. He is perceived more as a preacher rather than a prophet, or more as a teacher. But, since he is not in any historical documents from that time period, which he would have been in the Roman's history books or written by other famous historians from his area and time, as well as being documented by a page from the Roman senate as being a farce, he can't be a prophet. Just a character in a book to learn from and help guide us towards a better way to live.

Answer

There are two historians from that time who wrote about Jesus - Josephus and Tacitus, but they cover the death of Jesus only and say nothing about any Roman invention.

Jesus fulfills the role of prophet by telling forth the will of God. He also prophecies the destruction of Jerusalem, the manner of His death, and His resurrection.

Jesus is not a prophet. He is the son of God.

The Book of Isaiah speaks over and over the phophecies regarding Jesus, but Isaiah 53 is the most clear. This was written 600 years before Jesus lived by the Jewish prophet. I guess you could call Jesus a prophet, but the better term is messiah.

Isaiah 52:14-15 "His appearance was so disfigured beyond that of any human being, and His form marred beyond that of human likeness. So He will sprinkle many nations." 53:4-6 "Surely He has borne our griefs and carried our sorrows; yet we esteemed Him stricken, smitten by God, and afflicted. But He was wounded for our transgressions, He was bruised for our iniquities; the chastisement for our peace was upon Him, and by His stripes we are healed. All we like sheep have gone astray; We have turned, every one, to his own way"

Jesus is the Jewish messiah, prophesied by the Jewish prophets. Offered to "the Jew first and also for the gentile." - Romans 1:16

Yes He was and is. Christ is our highest prophet because He is the perfect revealer of the counsel and will of God for the salvation of sinners. Deuteronomy 18:15, " The Lord thy God Will raise up unto thee a Prophet from the midst of thee, of thy brethren, like unto me; unto Him ye shall hearken.

Christ while on earth was a priest, both in His sacrifice of Himself for the sins of the world and he is our high priest in heaven making intercession for us there.

Jesus Christ is the King. He will in the future rule the world from David's throne in Jerusalem. He came into the world as a King (Matthew 2:2). He died as a King (Matthew 27:37). He is coming again as a King ( Revelation 19:16).

Do Christians accept Jesus as a prophet?

Christians consider Jesus as the son of God, and as such, He is a prophet. Prophets point to God. Christians believe that Jesus IS God, and at the same time, He also points the way clearly and conclusively to God. This makes Him a prophet. Jesus, in fact, occupies the offices of Prophet, Priest and King.
