Walt Whitman started working as an office boy in the law office of James B. Clark and his son, Edward, on Fulton Street in Brooklyn Village in 1830 during the summer. Also Edward gives Whitman a subscription to a circulating library so that he may continue his education, And that is where he will read many adventure books. Later in that year he works for a doctor's office.
