A Heat Pump while more expensive to buy than a gas heater has much lower operating costs. It is also much cheaper to install requiring only an electrical connection instead of a gas supply line.

Hi there,

Both are good in their own way. The heat pump is cheaper to run than a gas heater but slower to heat water. Reliability is probably more on the side of gas pool heaters too. Generally, there is not a lot of electronics in a gas heater to go wrong.

Hope this helps you out a bit!

Cheers, Brian.

Your pool is roughly 24000Gal of water. It takes 8.33 BTU's to heat 1 Gallon of water. You can do the calculations and it works out to 160000BTU an hour output to gain 8 degrees in a 12 hour period. If you want to heat faster than that, you would need more output. I would recommend a Hayward H200FDN (200000BTU output with electronic ignition, really great product)

How many gallons of water is in a 18x36 in ground pool?

Cannot be answered with only these measurements. You need to specify what shape the pool is. Also, for a rectangular pool, the length, width and depth are needed. For a round pool, the diameter and depth are needed.

What is a good site that shows how to build an in-ground pool?

www.polarpools is probably the best. I bought mine there, and subbed out the dig and concrete apron. Local pool companies wanted 40,000 to do the job without the concrete work. I got my entire job done for 18X36 diving pool with heater, stairs..the whole thing for about 17,000. Polarpools.com has tons of pics of people installing their own pools.Check it out.

What is the difference between a natural gas above ground pool heater and an electric one?

Electric pool heaters use electricity to capture heat. As the pool pump circulates the water, it is drawn from the pool and through a filter and into the heat pump heater. The heater itself has a fan that pulls in outside air and pushes it over the evaporator coil. At this point liquid refrigerant in the evaporator coil absorbs the heat from the outside air converting it into a gas. The gas is then passed through the compressor where it increases the heat. This very hot gas is then sent through the condenser where the hot gas is transferred to the cool pool water circulating through the heater. The heated water is then returned to the pool.A gas pool heater on the other hand uses the gas directly to heat the water by fueling the combustion chamber.

What is the calculation for above ground pool heating?

As pertaining to what? Sizing the heater to the pool? Length of run time to heat the pool? Proper gas line run and size of pipe to use? What brand to use? How to hook the heater into the system? Natural gas or Propane? And quite a few more k

Does a above ground Pool cover provide any heating for above ground pool water?

Your regular cover won't heat the pool, it will hold the heat, but it will not heat it up. You need a solar blanket if you are looking for something to warm your pool.
