In most pictorial references God is symbolized by the all seeing eye, usually high in the sky with rays of light emanating from it. Another symbol for God is the dove.

Also the Hebrew Tetragrammaton for YHWH can also be a symbol for God.

The main symbol for Christianity is the Cross as on the Cross Jesus died for our sins. Other signs include a fishsign (from the Greek for Fish - ichthus) whre the I CH of ichthus stands for Iesus CHrist. The fish sig was used as a secret sign for Christians when they needed to identify each other during the time of persecution. The monogram IHS (sometimes superimposed on each other) again stands for JeHsuS. Some say that the IHS stands for 'Jesus Hominum Salvator' - jesus the Saviour of the World, but this is probably a later invention. The Chi-Rho sign (from the first two letters of CHRist in Greek are written X and P. Often these two letters are superimposed into a monogram annd indicate the name of Christ, Other signs include an Anchor (used a great deal in the Christian catacombs in Rome) and triangular or three-pointed symbols(denotiing the trinity) that are ften seen in Celtic art.
