It is on because the system has detected a problem in one of the air bags or seat belts. This problem may or may not keep the air bags from deploying in an accident, so It may not be the safest car to drive. The only way to turn the light off is to have a trained professional read the trouble codes in the SRS control unit, repair the problem(s) and then clear all the codes. This is not something you want to try to fix by yourself, not only for the obvious safety reasons, but because there is the potential for one of the air bags to go off while you are working on the car. If an air bag goes off while you are working on it, you can get hurt VERY BADLY!! I advise you to take the car to a repair shop that has experience working on air bag systems. massvolvoman
