3. Mulayka bint Kaab probably died in mid-630.

10. Hafsa bint Umar died in October or November 665.

11. Juwayriya bint Al-Harith probably died in 670, but 676 is also mentioned as a possible date.

13. Safiya bint Huyayy died in 672.

14. Sawda bint Zamaa died in September or October 674.

15. Ayesha bint Abi Bakr died on 16 July 678.

Answer 1

None of prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) wives are virgin upon his death. Simply, all of them on marriage with the prophet were either widows or divorced except his wife Aiash (God pleased with her) who was virgin when the prophet married her but of course was not virgin upon the prophet death.

They are 13 wives as follow with period of marriage shown between brackets.

  1. Khadijah bint Khuwaylid (595-619)
  2. Sawda bint Zamʿa (619-632)
  3. Aisha bint Abi Bakr (619-632)
  4. Hafsa bint Umar (624-632)
  5. Zaynab bint Khuzayma (625-627)
  6. Hind bint Abi Umayya (629-632)
  7. Zaynab bint Jahsh (627-632)
  8. Juwayriya bint al-Harith (628-632)
  9. Ramlah bint Abi Sufyan (628-632)
  10. Rayhana bint Zayd (629-631)
  11. Safiyya bint Huyayy (629-632)
  12. Maymuna bint al-Harith (630-632)
  13. Maria al-Qibtiyya (630-632)

Answer 2

Muhammad's final wife, Qutayla bint Qays, was a virgin at his death. She was a Jewish princess who had not been married before, so we can be quite certain that she was a virgin when her brother married her to Muhammad in April 632. Qutayla set out for the long journey from Yemen to Medina but while she was still on her way in June, she heard that Muhammad had died. They never met, so it is certain that their marriage was not consummated. Qutayla immediately apostasised from Islam, which is why she is usually not included on lists of Muhammad's "official" wives. This story is found in Ibn Saad (see Bewley's translation of volume 8, page 105).

Aisha made her famous statement that she had been Muhammad's only virgin bride in 626, when it was true (see Ibn Saad/Bewley pp. 55-56). But after this date he married at least seven women who were probably virgins. Only two of these marriages (to Mulayka bint Kaab and Fatima bint Al-Dahhak) were consummated; because Muhammad later divorced both women, they are not considered "Mothers of the Faithful". Two of Muhammad's other virgin brides (Khawla bint Hudhayl and Sharaf bint Khalifa) died before their marriages could be consummated.

There were three other brides whom Muhammad divorced before consummation (Sana bint Asma, Bint Jundub and Al-Shanbaa bint Amr) but it is not known whether they were remarried, or even still alive, at the time of Muhammad's death. So Qutayla bint Qays is the only wife of Muhammad who definitely fits the criteria for a "virgin widow of Muhammad".

Fatima bint Al-Dahhak, also known as Al-Aliya, outlived all Mohammed's widows and finally died in 680.

However, Mohammed had divorced her in 630.

Of the women who were still married to him on the day he died, the one who lived longest was Hind bint Abi Umayya (Umm Salama). She died in 678 or 679.
