Not knowing what year your car is I'll have to guess that it's a post 1996 with a VATS OEM anti-theft device. That would indicate that the VATS signal was correct at startup but failed while you were driving the vehicle. The constant light indicates that the VATS is in "Failed Enable" mode meaning that there is no more immobilizer protecting your vehicle usually caused by a worn ignition barrel. If your car is 10 years old and aren't worry by theft then don't worry about it, it won't leave you stranded. If you have several hundred dollars burning a hole in your pocket then take it to a repair shop. There's nothing you can do yourself.
My 2001 Chevy Blazer's security stays on. Does that effect the cranking up of the vehicle?
Because it is
If a signal light stays on, but does not flash on a 1989 Pontiac, there could be a light burned out in the turn signals on the exterior of the vehicle. It is also possible that the flasher unit has gone bad. The flasher unit is under the dash on the driver's side.
It probably won't start
if the light goes off it's probably the starter...
The security wire is either disconnected or shorting.
The light stays on when there is a problem in the restraint system. Have the codes checked, repair the cause, clear the code and the light will be off.
Well, I've been in the business of selling cars since 1994, and I did sell new and pre-owned Chrysler products. IF it says "SECURITY" on this light that stays on, it means that your factory installed security system is not working correctly or at all.
If the security light stays on in a 1993 Z28, there could be a problem with the settings for the lights. Sometimes the adjustment knob for the interior lights gets bumped. There is also a possibility that the probe that is in the door hinge area has been broken off.
Are you using a copy key, or the original, the original should have a chip in it to unlock the security, if not a chipped key, the security system will not unlock, Key will have a little black square on one side. Will neeed to have vin# and info to get code from GM to cut new key and program the chip.
Mine is doing the same thing.. I have to leave the key on position for exatually 10. mintues. turn key off when security light has disapeared. Then try to start and it as worked every time. (So Far). I want to know what is causing this problem? I had my Pontiac grand am for three years. Just the last 6 months it been doing this. But happening more and more
is your security light flashing? turn the key on, leave on for 10 mins, turn key off let it sit for 2 mins, start car
