It depends really on how confident you are as a swimmer. If you are capable of swimming in high tide then swim in high tide but if not swim at low tide.

What is a high and low tide?

high tides are high water level they are called spring tides and low tides are low water level they are called neap tides. high tides and low tides occur when the sun, earth and the moon are inline. during new moon there are high tides at west and east and low tides at north and west, because the direction which the moon is facing that direction will have a high tide.

How does low tide happen?

When the Sun and Moon pull the sea water from shore there is a low tide. Where I live (Sweden's west coast) the atmospheric pressure and the winds have a greater influence than the Sun and Moon. So when there is high pressure and/or the winds have blown to the West or North, we have low tides.

On most seacoasts the average time from one high tide to the next high tide is about?

As the Earth turns on its axis, the moon moves around the Earth. This causes the tidal bulges to travel from east to west. Every place along the seashore has two high tides and two low tides daily. All parts of the oceans pass under the moon in 24 hours and 50 minutes. In one fourth of this time, the tides change. So, tides change approximately every 6 hours and 12.5 minutes. From one high tide to another high tide is 12 hours 25 minutes. it can be either two answers. 1. 6 hours and 12.5 minutes (6 hrs and 13minutes if rounded) 2. 12 hrs and 25 minutes.

What does the moon have in common with a compass needle?

Both can be used for telling where North, south, east and west lie. Takes some practice with the moon though, and doesn't work at midnight on a full moon. :) The curved side ( as in the natural part circle curve) always points to where the sun is, even when you can't see the sun, so knowing the time, as in before or after midnight, you can work out whether the curve is pointing East or West, then North and South by deduction.
