I believe what you are trying to imply it if it is rude to go with a cold. You should be fine as long as you can breath out of your nose when they are working in your mouth.

You can just notify them of the situation before your appointment. They should be wearing gloves to help prevent them from getting cold sores on their hands. If your in pain when you open your mouth, you may want to reschedule your appointment until the cold sore has healed up a bit which can take a week or two.
