Can you put ceramic tile over ceramic tile?

You can, but you want to be sure the ceramic tile is not cracked or broken, make sure it is even, and not loose. It is reccomended that you you always remove any old tile before tiling. You can always lay a subfloor on top of the old tile to ensure your new tile was crack or pop out.

Install ceramic tile?

The key to how to lay ceramic tile is preparation and having the right tools. 1. Measure opposite sides of the room and mark the centerof each side. Snap a chalk line between the marks. Measure and mark the center of the chalk line. From this point, use a framing square to establish a second line perpendicular to the first. Snap a second layout line across the room. 2. Check for square with a 3-4-5 triangle. Measure and mark one layout line 3 feet from the center point. Measure and mark the perpendicular layout line 4 feet from the center point. Measure the distance between the marks. If the layoutt lines are perpendicular the distance will be exactly 5 feet. 3- Lay tiles and spacer along one line from the center to the wall. 4- Divide the floor into manageable boxes, roughly 2-feet-by-3-feet for setting the tiles. Begin by laying out an L shape in the center of the room. Use the chalk lines as a guide, and separate the tiles with spacers. 5- Measure both branches of the L from the center to determine the size of the boxes you will lay out on the floor. Add the widthe of one spacer to each measurement. 6- Remove the tiles. Lay out a chalk-line grid, with each box the size of the sample you measured in Step 5. 7- Do a dry run to determine the placement and cuts. Place a row of tiles along each line using spacer. 8. To set tiles after proper preparation of the surface, begin at the center of the room and work out. Follow working lines and keep tiles aligned with plastic spacers.

How do you tile over concrete?

I'll tell you what I've seen in the past. I'm not a tile guy, but my friend is a master tile setter. Occaisonally, he'll hire me to be his helper on bigger jobs. Setting tile is relatively easy, it's the prep work that people are paying the proffessional for. You need to find any low spots in the floor and repair them, even if the slab is new. I'm not sure what product my friend uses to fill these in but if I had to guess I would think it is " thinset". He spreads this with a flat trowel (only in the identified low area), allows it to dry, then scrapes it smooth with a metal straight edge, sometimes a little sanding is neccesary. He can spot these low areas by eye, but I think, for a novice, wetting the floor down and marking the areas where the water pools would be the easiest. Smaller floor tiles like 4"x4" will follow an uneven floor better than larger tiles such as 12"x12" or bigger. If the floor has "duck ponds" in it, the larger tiles might find a hollow space underneath them allowing them to crack. So, in a nut shell, the larger the tile, the more miticulous you should be with the floor prior to setting the tile. Once the floor has been prepped, I believe you would spread the thinset with a 1/4" or 3/8" notched trowel, following some pre-snapped refference chalk lines to keep your tile running straight. check with the manufacturer of the tile to see what they want for grout joint spacing ( usually 1/4" ). Also, use the reccomended thin set and grout to retain the product warranty. Hope this at least gets you pointed in the right direction. Sweep then take a damp sponge every time you start a new area. A little dust will effect your bond. Check and see if the concrete was sealed, this may also effect the bond. They also have level Quick ya just pour it on it finds the low spots, I love the stuff.

How do you remove grout from on top of ceramic wall tile?

Normally you should be able to remove it with dry newspaper, it should come off quite easily once dry. Using a damp sponge will only spread it further.

How do you remove gorilla glue from ceramic tile?

if it is glazed ceramic tile - let it dry fully (I let mine dry for a few weeks) then CAREFULLY pop the glue off with a chisel. Hold the chisel so the flat end is up and the beveled end is on the tile and gently push the tip of the chisel into the (expanded) gorilla glue. hit the end of the chisel with the palm of your hand and the glue will pop off the ceramic.

Can you lay ceramic tile over existing tile?

How do you replace the decorative tile border on a concrete pool?

To replace the decorative tile border on a concrete pool, the pool will have to be drained. The old tile needs to be taken off and a new tile with waterproof grout or concrete can be installed. The pool should dry for a week or so, before it is refilled.

How to Install Duraceramic Tile?

Duraceramic tile will not chip, break or crack like regular ceramic tiles. Manufactured in a 16" square format with scoring, you can cut the score lines to make 4 tiles 8" square. They are best installed in dry residential rooms. This leaves the bathroom out. Use the proper underlayment for the type of floor you are installing Duraceramic tile on. Spread Congoleum Duraceramic tile adhesive on the underlayment using a tile trowel. Allow to dry until tacky, then set the tiles with spacers. Use a roller to press tiles into place, and allow to dry 24 hours. Grout with Congoleum Duraceramic grout.

Hard Cleaning Ceramic Tile?

If your ceramic tile looks a little too dingy for your taste, it may be time to give it a hard clean. Hard cleaning is something that should be done in careful moderation and not overdone. Some of the chemicals and tools used can actually ruin your ceramic tile flooring if used too often. To give your ceramic tile a hard clean, use tools like a floor scrubbing brush, a little bit of bleach, all purpose cleaner, mild detergent and more. Once you are finished scrubbing the floor using your solution, rinse it with warm water and wipe up any residue or film with a dry cloth or towel.

What is the proper way to dispose of damaged ceramic tile?

Remove the old ceramic tile starting at one of the edges. The best place to begin is where the old ceramic tile butts up against a different type of flooring, such as a carpet or wood floor. Chip away at the grout surrounding the old ceramic tile, using a metal putty knife and hammer. Set the putty knife on the grout and hit the top of the putty knife with the hammer. Work your way around the first tile pegged for removal.2 Slip the blade of the putty knife under the ceramic tile after loosening the grout. Apply pressure to the handle of the putty knife and pop out the old ceramic tile.3 Chip the grout away from the tiles and pop the tiles out, using the putty knife, until you have removed all of the old tiles.4 Vacuum the area with a wet/dry vacuum to remove any residue.

How long does sealer for ceramic tile need to dry before walking on it?

It all depends on the sealer you used! I use a product called StableCrete that penetrates into the grout joints to waterproof them without leaving a film. Ready for light traffic in four hours. The Grout is what you seal with a ceramic install and not the ceramic!

Can you install carpet on ceramic floor tile?

We have installed carpet on cermic a few times. Please be aware your grout lines will most likely show through into the carpet. The best option is to stretch the new carpet in over cushion. In order to do this the tackstip will need to be glued to the existing ceramic. Keep in mind you will want to glue this tackstrip and let it dry for at least 24 hours prior to stretching in the carpet.

The blade I bought for cutting ceramic tile that is not working so well is the tile supposed to be wet?

I install ceramic tile professionally in the Opelika, AL area. I have several saws some dry some wet. It depends on what kind of saw you have. Breakers have a tungsten blade that scribes the tile and then breaks it. Wet Saws usually have large blades 10-14" in diameter that need to be wet when cutting. Grinders have small 4-6" blades that cut dry. Hand saws look similar to a skil saw and usually cut dry also. I would recommend sharpening the blade by cutting a cinder block or brick with it. Just dip the blade into the brick or block about 1/2" to 1" about 2 times and it should dramatically improve the cutting ability of the blade. If you are cutting a hard, dense tile and the blade is "dulling", cut through a softer tile to "sharpen" the blade again.
