A poem is an expression of feeling or storyportrayed in a precise form using some sort of poetic rules such as iambic pentameter or rhyme. It does not need to have these to be a poem but it does need to have rhythm.

I suggest you read the following as they are great examples of poems:

Well there is basic poetry that everyone knows. Like

Roses are red

Violets are blue

The depth of my love?

If you only knew.......

Or there are much longer and older ones like the 'iliad' which is an epic poem by a greek called Homer (sometimes thought that Homer was more than one person.)

Then again here are other basic poems like 'Blessing' by Imtiaz Dharker or 'Limbo' by Kamau Brathwaite.
