Four days - from Monday to Thursday.
Act 3, Scene 4
But, soft! what day is this?
PARIS
Monday, my lord,
CAPULET
Monday! ha, ha! Well, Wednesday is too soon,
O' Thursday let it be: o' Thursday, tell her,
She shall be married to this noble earl.
Will you be ready? do you like this haste?
We'll keep no great ado,--a friend or two;
For, hark you, Tybalt being slain so late,
It may be thought we held him carelessly,
Being our kinsman, if we revel much:
Therefore we'll have some half a dozen friends,
And there an end. But what say you to Thursday?
Romeo and Juliet had been married that morning, then Romeo got into the fight in which he killed Tybalt, and was banished to Mantua.
Juliet's father is talking to Paris in this scene.
Whilst this is going on, the lovers have their one night together as a married couple. In the morning they have that wonderful conversation, which starts,
Juliet:
Wilt thou be gone? it is not yet near day:
It was the nightingale, and not the lark,
That pierced the fearful hollow of thine ear;
Nightly she sings on yon pomegranate-tree:
Believe me, love, it was the nightingale.
But it is morning and Romeo rides off to Mantua.
Then Juliet's mother tells her about the arranged marriage to Paris, which is to take place on Thursday, and Juliet goes off to Friar Lawrence, who gives her the sleeping potion to drink.
He tells her to drink it on Wednesday night, and that its effect will last for 42 hours. But then Capulet moves the wedding up to Wednesday morning, so she takes the potion Tuesday night
On Wednesday, when the marriage is to take place, Juliet appears dead.
She therefore wakes up on Thursday, 42 hours after she drank the potion.
They married after knowing each other for one day.
About eighteen hours, assuming they meet at about eight at night and got married at about two the next afternoon.
