You can use your itunes library to sync it towards as many iPods as you wish however you can only sync each iPod with one library.
Make sure the "Manually manage music and videos" check box IS CHECKED on both of your ipods. This will take a little more work but then it will not automatically sync and will easily allow you to connect multiple ipods to one itunes - we have three ipods and one itunes at our place.

To add songs one can simply drag them from a folder onto the Library portion of the side bar in iTunes. The songs will be converted into the format specified in one's iTunes' preferences. The file menu where it says import file to library and import folder to library can also be used to add media to iTunes.
Well, ipods you can take anywere, they are small, and also what I like is that if you just like 1 song on a CD then you can just buy that one song on itunes.
