Some consequence yet hanging in the stars
Shall bitterly begin his fearful date
With this night's revels and expire the term
Of a despised life closed in my breast
By some vile forfeit of untimely death.
But He, that hath the steerage of my course,
Direct my sail! On, lusty gentlemen. (1.4.104-113)
Romeo is saying he feels like he is going to die....
After everything happens the Friar is talking about how untimely his death was.
And but thou love me, let them find me here:
My life were better ended by their hate,
Than death prorogued, wanting of thy love.
In abundance. Romeo stabs Tybalt in the street within a couple of minutes of meeting him. Within 20 words at the dance Romeo and Juliet are kissing under the noses of her parents. Within a couple of days Romeo has forgotten about his previous girl and married 13 -year-old Juliet, even though it meant almost certain death for him at least and a nunnery for her. And creeping about in her garden and climbing up into her bedroom might be thought a bit hasty and ill-judged.
Some examples of hate are when Romeo killed Tybalt without thinking twice about it, and afterward he got punnished. Romeo drank the poison that led to his death quickly, if only he waited a few more minutes he would have known about the plan. Also, Romeo and Juliet got married very quickly, and Romeo got over Rosaline very fast too.
In Romeo and Juliet we see many instances of haste
- Romeo is eager to marry Juliet, thus their marriage is 'too sudden, too rash, too unadvised'
- Juliet is pressured to make quick decisions as she is being forced to marry Paris
- Romeo is impatient and acts with too much haste killing himself before realising Juliet is not in fact dead.
- Romeo thinks irrationally when he kills Tybalt seeking revenge without considering the ramifications.
- Romeo and Juliet get married within days of meeting each other (condensed time)
- Tybalt tries to act with haste to attack Romeo at the party however is stopped by Lord Capulet
- The marriage of Paris and Juliet is moved up thus creating haste, theme of condensed time
" And in the taste confounds the appetite. Therefore love moderately. Long love doth so. Too swift arrives as tardy too slow" said by Friar Lawrence ( Act 2, scene 6 lines 9-15)
they had known each other for a very short amount of time.. the whole play took place in less than a week.
1. He planned to marry J when he didn't even know her for a full day
2. He killed Tybalt without hesitating or thinking it through
That is the correct spelling of the noun "impulsiveness" (capriciousness or spontaneity).
