i was actually able to find the answer myself. component cable red green blue can handle 1080 p and i, and 720 just fine. the problem is all DVD upconverters and blu ray players will only allow true hi def signals thru hdmi and dvi as a encryption protection method. way to screw the consumer. theres a handful of upconverters that will do hi def like signal thru component but none of the new ones. except the Helios h2000 and h4000 and there other models. this still sometimes doesnt work on the newer discs were youll see an hdcp lock when trying to play the movie. but firmware updates help this not be an issue on some DVD content.

By component, you are probably referring to the three phono / RCA connectors that take an analog component signal. Almost all of these types of connector will only handle SD signals (480i) because HD analog component is virtually non-existant. Playing an HD disc using the component out will very likely produce a down converted signal. However, the only way to get a definitive answer is to read the manuals for the player and the display to see if they both support HD analog component signals.

If you have HDMI connectors on both, it's probably best to use them as it avoids a digital to anlog conversion and an anlog to digital conversion, both required if you try to use an anlog link in the signal path.

Is the Sony dav fc8 HDMI capable?

No, the HCD-FC8 does not have a HDMI output. Its DVD player does not support 720p or 1080i upscaling through the component video output, either. The best you will be able to get with this model is 480p resolution through the component video output.

How do you play video games on an HDTV?

Most Consoles can scale up. PlayStation and pretty much all Xbox games support 480p. The Xbox360 also scales up to 720p and 1080i. You need to connect via the component video outlet. S-video and Composite are not compatible.

Panasonic model PT-61HX42F have a HD sensor in it?

no; the unit can only accept up to 1080i/480p/480i resolution. 720p and 1080p will not work with this unit what so ever. Remember component (red/blue/green) are still an analog signal because the frequency is too low to be a,"True High Def" (1080p).

Does your 32f543 sharp tv support 480p or higher?

The television dates back to around 2005 so is a standard definition model. It won't support the HD formats of 720p, 1080i or 1080p. It will support 480i which is the standard definition format for North America. Note that 480p, as asked in the question, does not exist as a broadcast format and the television will not support it.

Is 1204 x 720 the same as 480P?

No it's not. You may be confusing 1204x720 for 1280x720, which is 720p and is a much higher picture quality than 480p. 480p is 852x480.Also 480p is a much smaller file size usually averaging 180MB for 45 minutes whereas 720p would be nearly 1GB.

Does the Wii support HDMI output?

The Nintendo Wii was not built with High Definition in mind. The Wii produces a screen resolution of 480p while HD televisions are built for video ranging 720p to 1080p. The image will look okay on any screen even on High Definition televisions however the image will be more pixelated on larger screens.

Will a PS3 run on a on a non-HD TV?

Yes ther are 6 different resolutions your PS3 can play on. 480i, 480p, 720i, 720p, 1080i and 1080p. Once you hook up the composite cables or the HDMI cable it saves the setting automatically and therefore must change the settings again to go back to standard definition.
