blinker switch is part of that system is most likey problem trust me i owned 9 s10 all 82-94 and college for 5 years of elec/auto replace the blinker switch on the clolume"

The turn signal switch overrides the brake light circuit while the turn signals are on. If the switch is damaged or worn out the brake lights won't work.

Check the brake light fuse. If you have 12 volts at the brake light switch I would suspect the signal light switch is at fault.
