First, lift up the front and take off the wheels with a tire iron. Next, unbolt the brake caliper using the 3/8-inch ratchet and socket, pull it off the spindle and hang the caliper by the upper control arm. Then, remove the dust cap using a hammer and flathead screwdriver and remove cotter pin in the middle of the spindle using the cotter-pin puller. Finally, unbolt the spindle nut in the middle of the rotor pull the rotor off the spindle and remove the bearings on both sides.

My front wheel bearings just went in my 04 mountaineer, and we tried to replace them ourselves, but in order to get to the bearings you have to have the truck up on a lift, so unfortunately we had to send it to a mechanic.

How do you change front wheel bearings 2004 Ford Ranger?

Why are you changing wheel bearings so soon on a 2004 ? shouldn't this still be under warranty ???? I have a 1998 with 192,000 miles (I am the original owner) and have never changed the front wheel bearings ... They are still good too. I don't know about a 2004.... but on my 98, when I did the front brakes, I changed the front rotors too. New rotors came with new races installed in them already. Get new seals and Just clean and repack the bearings with grease and set the pre-load properly. Thats my 2cents worth. Good luck
