They would probably get in trouble for attacking a civilian if they didn't do anything and didn't have anything illegal. Or attacking an officer (who had nothing bad with him).
dog bites kid.tears up car.runs away.
The same thing you do about anyone else stealing it. You would have to file a police report and prosecute him.
As long as it is not stolen, to keep your ass outa trouble go to the police and tell the police the story on whats going. I had this same problem only thing is that I paid for the item and they reported it stolen, so I'm out $400 and a decent laptop. ------------ This would be a lesson for answerer number one to keep receipts. If someone gave me something then threatened to report to the police that I had stolen it. I would immediately return the item to that person and that would be it. No "thing" is worth the unnecessary hassle of trying to clear my name. It should also be a lesson to not accept "gifts" from someone you don't know well enough and don't know their motive for giving it to you.

If you have the badge number of a police officer, you can find out his or her name. Simply call the police station in that jurisdiction and ask for it.

It is possible that a police officer may give his name as P.C. if they are his initals. His full name should also be provided to the person for reference, however.
