Earth has only one natural satellite and that is the moon. There are however over 13,000 artificial satellites, and the most widely recognized is the International Space Station (ISS). The first man-made satellite was Sputnik, launched into orbit in 1957 by the Soviet Union. The first American satellite was Explorer, launched the following year. The oldest satellite still in orbit is Vanguard, launched in 1958 by the US.
