If the text is in the public domain, there's a big chance you can download it for free from sites such as Project Gutenberg.

If you're talking about a book that's not in the public domain and you have already bought the printed version, no. You need to purchase it if you want it on the Kindle. I'm not aware of any discounts offered if you bought the paperback version from Amazon, either.

How do you share books in Kindle?

You can share books on different Kindles if they are registered on the same amazon account. If they are on the same account, all the books that can be shared are in the Archived Items on the home page. If they are not registered on the same account, you can switch the registration and download the books on the Kindle and then switch back to your own account.

What kind of batteries does kindle use Are they rechargable Does it come with a charger?

The battery is a rechargeable lithium polymer battery. This battery is (likely) proprietary to the Kindle itself as you cannot access the battery without nearly destroying the case (I own one). The Kindle does come with a Charger that is a USB Cord with an AC Adapter that attaches to it.

Note: for the time being, only US residents can lend Kindle books. Others can only receive loans.According to Amazon help, you can lend books two ways:by going to "Manage your Kindle" on your Amazon.com page, looking at your past orders and clicking the "Loan this book" button, then entering the recipient's name and email;from the book's page on Amazon. If it can be lent and you own it, there'll be a button there.
