There is nothing different about them! It is the same dog breed but they were called different names depending on which country they were in.
During WWI and WWII, German Shepherd Dogs in Great Brittain were called Alsatian Wolf Dogs or simply Alsatians because they didn't want the stigma of the word "German" attached to the breed because of the war.
Today people have the confusion that Alsatians and GSDs are different. They even go on and on in describing the structural differences. This is all baseless and self created.
Actulally:
Today is not yesterday and yes, there is a new dog in town called the AMERICAN ALSATIAN. The name Alsatian Wolf Dog was a nick name and never registered. Though many brit's still try to keep the name ALSATIAN as being meaningful and they are trying to get the world to accept a new breed called the ALSATIAN, they will not be able to because of the slang name being used for the breed GSD.
the name AMERICAN ALSATIAN has been bought and registered with the TRADE MARK government agency. You can Google it.
The Alsatian and German Shepherd are the same dog.
The German Shepherd (Deutscher Schäferhund) dog was classified before the Great War and was promoted widely by the troops returing from the conflict for it's loyalty, strength and demeanor.
However, having 'German' in the name did little to help it's popularity and s the UK Kennel Club renamed the breed the Alsatian Wolf Dog; a name adopted internationally. It remained 'Alsatian', the Wolf Dog having been quietly dropped, until 1977 when successful campaigning by breed owners persuaded the UK Kennel club to revert the breed name to German Shepherd. Interbreeding and other unscrupulous methods have transformed the breed from it's original proud heritage to a point where monorchidism (body retention of testicle), hip dysplasia (weakness/deformity of hip joints), flop ears, colour paling, unpredictable temperament and congenitally missing teeth are quite common.
its the same, German Shepherd Dog is also known as the Alsatian in Great Britain and parts of Europe..
During WW II the German Shepherd was referred to as Alsation so that all connection to Germany and the Germans would be forgotten.
No, there is no difference between an Alsatian and a German Sheperd.
There is no difference between an Alsatian and a German Shepherd, it is the same breed, just a different name.
There isn't.
In WW1 and WW2 German Shepherds were suddenly losing popularity as it was a German breed so they changed the name to spare the breed.
