The network may be offline for maintenance at various times.

Service was restored to most users on May 14, 2011 after the outage of April 20, 2011. Users were required to reset their passwords and download new software to connect to the network.

While the network was shutdown it is now up an running and offering welcome back bonuses for returning members. Some of the Bonuses are 2 free PS3 games from a list of 5, 1 free PSP game, & 30 Days free membership in the PlayStation Plus program.

The PlayStation network shutdown on April 20 2011 after they learned they learned of a network intrusion and finally is back to normal with the PlayStation Store opening on June 2 2011. PlayStation Network Game play had already begun 2 weeks prior. Information on the actual Intrusion is limited by security considerations and criminal procedures. The messages about starting a program to provide customer bonuses were correct and the bonuses are available at the PlayStation store. The PlayStation network was down for over two weeks in April- May 2011 after Sony's system was hacked and the personal information of 100 million users was obtained. The company began relaunching the network after May 14, 2011 and offered free games to get new members to come back.
