salt is a pure substance because it has a definite composition

A Mixture is physical combinations of pure substances that have no definite composition. Salt/Water is an homogeneous mixture also called a solution, it is relatively uniform in composition. Depending on the salt nature and solubility in water we can get a heterogeneous mixture because composition varies from position to position within the sample like small salt portions not soluble in water.
