Kids learn what is good and bad, right and wrong from their parents so when their parents are fat themselves, kids learn that as "right" or okay so that's how they will probably end up living for the rest of their lives. When a young child, elementary school age or younger, the kids usually only get food from their parents or eat at school the way they do at home, fattening and unhealthy foods. I do consider it wrong to "overfeed" a child. I know from experience that when your parents are overweight, your kids become that way too and it remained like that until I became of age to realize it was a problem to my health and social interaction with my peers and would continue to be unless I changed my eating habits. For some kids, they will never change because by the time they realize that they need to change, the either are addicted to food or have Diabetes(or some health problem related to food). To sum it all up, you are hurting your child physically by letting them become overweight or obese. It is unfair to let a child go through years of physical disability(being behind other kids in gym class, etc.) and social rejection(kids making fun of them, being left out...). If at one point people could sue McDonald's for making their kids fat, then parents should be held to a much higher standard because they are supposed to teach kids how to live right while restaurants just want money. There is child neglect but overdoing it is just as bad. Teach kids how to cut back and control themselves around food. I've found that kids who have never had weight issues don't have problems with overeating but myself being a kid who has dealt with weight issues struggles everyday to keep from eating too much food and have portioned meals. So if you're one of those people who has a fat kid, STOP GIVING THEM SO MUCH FOOD!! YOU'RE GOING TO RUIN THEIR LIVES!!
Not per-se, but Obesity takes the (cake) as the most widely-ridiculed physical health condition among children, even outstripping nicknames tossed at the Visually impaired ( such as Four Eyes, Glasses-Face, Batman (derisive), Blindbat and so on) Maybe because Obesity is visible. Some handicaps and health problems, deafness, for example, are not visible to the naked eye or even in photographs. That is why there are no slang terms for deaf people- unlike Fatso, whale, blimp, ....
All it is part of their jobs.

Substance and child abuse are similar because they both are the resulting direction of one's emotions. In substance abuse, the person tries to drown out their emotions by drinking. In child abuse, the person takes their emotions out on the child.
