Most of the time labor must be itemized separately for you not to be charged sales tax. In cases like where a contractor puts a new roof on a home for $8,000 then sales tax must be charged for the whole amount. If the invoice lists the bill of $4500 for materials and $3500 for labor to put on new shingles then sales tax would only be charged for the material and not for the labor. This is pretty much the law in just about every state.
Not in my state.... I was an auto mechanic, and sales tax is only charged on parts.... not on the cost of labor or on gas and oil (the price on gas and oil already includes all applicable taxes)TW
Your taxable sales only-those from in state buyers who you charged sales tax. (If you do.)
You should be charged the sales tax from the state you live in. I know that if you live in NH and you buy a car in another state you aren't charged any tax because NH doesn't have tax.

New York has an incredible number of social projects that must be paid for. They cost money. Sales tax helps keep these social services alive.
All sales of tangible personal property in Iowa are subject to sales tax unless exempted by state law. Sales of services are exempt from Iowa sales tax unless taxed (enumerated) by state law. Labor is not tangible personal property So what that means, is unless the labor is specifically enumerated as a taxable type of service, than labor is NOT taxable. see http://www.state.ia.us/tax/educate/78539.html#ExemptSales for a listing on labor that requires collection of state sales tax.
Depends on the state you live in, if you have your own business check with your state, for example my state has "Ohio Department of Taxation." They will be able to give you a factual answer. in nj yes except for towing or road service, also sublet repair for a another shop is non taxed g
Yes, in the state of New York you can charge sales tax on labor. This tax law is different for each state, so if you travel away from NY, be sure to check local state law.
There is a federal excise tax and a state sales tax.
