If we are talking about being born 8 months of course. The further along they are in their development the better.
If you are talking about after being born depends on the baby and cause of dying.

The most common lung problem in a premature baby is respiratory distress syndrome (RDS), also known as hyaline membrane disease (HMD).

∙ 11y ago8 month premature under normal circumstances. It's only better for the baby to be outside the uterus if there is insufficient oxygenation or placental abnormalities which are very rare. Most OB's perform an induction or a c-section if those are discovered.

∙ 11y agoThere is a difference between delivering at 7 and 8 months. It's not an old nurses tale. The difference is lung function. At 7 months the lungs are developed and have high surfactant production. At 8 months the surfactant production slows because it is not needed immediately. It is better to deliver at 7 months because surfactant production is high, which means easier breathing for any child, regardless of race. Don't worry though, if you are 8 months, your MD may order a steroid injection to help you baby's lungs.

It depends on how premature. I was born at 22 weeks, which is about 4 months premature. I'm not sure how large my feet were but it put it in perspective my grandfather's wedding ring fit on my leg all the way up to my thigh. I would guess in an extremely premature baby less than one inch.
