Is it acceptable to answer your own question on WikiAnswers?

Yes, it is perfectly okay to ask and answer your own questions here.

People do this when they want to share their knowledge on a particular topic or subject but cannot find many questions on it.

Another reason this is done is to "seed". This means creating questions about a popular topic in order to have enough to warrant the creation of a new category for that topic here on the website.




Limitations
Please bear in mind however that it is against the Terms of Use that you accepted to use Answers/WikiAnswers for commercial reasons. You cannot ask questions about your business and you cannot advertise your business in answers. We are an educational Q&A community. Commercial content will be removed and repeated violations will result in your access to the community being permanently revoked.
You also cannot ask questions about yourself or things like "does Shaun have a crush on me". Anything which is about you and add no value to a serious Q&A website are removed.
Cyberbullying is treated with zero tolerance because it is against our Terms of Use and it is against the law.

Answering Your Own QuestionsAbsolutely. You may answer your own questions (as long as the questions abide by the Community Guidelines). You can help build the knowledge base by asking questions and then answering them with facts you find from other sources. If you want to help by asking and answering questions as a way to share your knowledge, that's great. It is a great way to build the site, and is commonly practiced by many here.

This is actually a common technique when new categories are created, to "seed" the category with questions and answers.

You might intentionally ask questions in a very generic manner, and then answer them as you would any other question. For example, in the Maine category, you might notice that there's no information about when Maine became part of the union. So you might ask and answer the question, "What year did Maine become a state?"
